Adventure Academy

A catalog of short educational videos for Adventure Academy, Age of Learning's massively multiplayer online game for elementary and middle-school kids: math, science, history, and writing, made to live inside the game.

The brief

Adventure Academy is what Age of Learning built after ABCmouse: a massively multiplayer online game for elementary and middle-school children, announced in April 2019 as “the world’s first AAA educational massively multiplayer online game” and reported to have cost about a hundred million dollars to make. Inside it, learning happens in kiosks: short videos, games, books, and quizzes across math, science, history, and language arts. RomaScope’s job was the video: build out a catalog of short educational films that would live inside the game and hold a nine-year-old’s attention next to everything else in it.

“Short films that had to earn their place next to a game.”

The approach

Series rather than one-offs, each with its own format and voice: Math in the World Around Us finds the math hiding in a spiderweb, a sunflower, and a piece of music; The Secret Life of Ordinary Things tells the story behind chocolate, sneakers, or a toothbrush; Dig Deeper goes further into a topic like Mars or the space station; Science Fair turns an experiment into a story, from a lava lamp to a penny battery; Young Explorers Society sends kids out into the world; and WordPlay, a ten-part writing series created and hosted by the children’s author Kwame Alexander, teaches story-writing episode by episode. Live action and animation, two to three minutes each, written to a curriculum reviewed against state and national standards, and delivered in batches to a game that was adding content every month.

What we delivered

  • Dozens of short educational videos across several series, delivered in batches over several years
  • Live-action and animated formats, two to three minutes each
  • Scripts written to Age of Learning’s curriculum standards

Results

  • Math in the World Around Us: The Fibonacci Sequence has passed 1.7 million views on the Adventure Academy channel (counted on YouTube on September 21, 2026)
  • Given free to more than 1.2 million children, with ABCmouse and ReadingIQ, when schools closed in 2020
